Melissa- Shape, form, repetition

Here's the photo after the crop you guys suggested. Thanks for the advice! I think it makes for a smoother photo overall, and also makes the slight wide angle distortion less apparent.
f/8, 1/80 sec., ISO 320, WB sunny, metered off a dark spot in the scene, taken around noon. Kane Hall at UW.
I hesitated posting this because it's similar to my bridge photo from last class, but I liked how the guy breaks up the pattern in the portals.

  1. Love this shot. The perspective and shapes are great, love the rhythm, and you are right, this picture works because of the man standing to the left perfectly centered at the opening. Would have loved to see his shadow as well. One thought (and this is just s thought)... The rhythm and pattern might be a little cleaner and the guy a little more emphasized if the shot was cropped just s little, maybe 10% from left (so left side of picture starts in the sun), right (so the right side starts in the shadow) and bottom (with the first full diagonal floor shadow stating close to the bottom left corner), but leave the top as is (??)

  2. I really like this shot a lot. Not only does it have some really interesting shapes and a great sense of perspective, but it definitely "tells a story" and the guy standing to the left is a key element to the photo. On the cropping, I think I might have cropped it on the right a bit to eliminate the side of the column and bring the bottom up a bit.
