This is a photo I've been working on all week for my sister (since her name is Cheryl Lynn and her birthday is this month). I'm posting it under value, because it's the best one I got and the histogram did spread evenly. But really my reason for posting is trouble with color. I've really struggled with waterfront photos keeping the white and blue separated. The bluer photo is jpeg, and the blue accurately reflects the colors on the boats. The greener photo is the raw version. The boat's white is better, but the blue is not the right shade. No matter what the weather is or what the WB is set to, I end up with slightly blue boats. Any suggestions?

What editing software are you using?
ReplyDeleteI converted the raw to jpeg in Photoshop Elements 8. Usually I edit in Microsoft Picture Manager. But there isn't any editing here, except the conversion.
ReplyDeleteI don't know Elements, but I assume it lets you do a custom white balance from a gray card.
ReplyDeleteTry shooting a gray card like this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/472220-REG/WhiBal_WB6PK_G6_Pocket_White_Balance.html in one shot so you have a known value you can use for white balance.
Another option is to set a custom white balance before you shoot using something like the Expodisc (http://www.expoimaging.com/product-overview.php?cat_id=1&keywords=ExpoDisc) or shoot a gray card or something like this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/375202-REG/Lastolite_LL_LR2050_EZYBalance_Grey_White_Card_.html to do a one touch white balance.
